Niven Pre-Breakers are designed for the size reduction of whole fallen animals, condemned carcasses, and green bone prior to rendering.
Their rugged heavy-duty construction uses a unique crushing and breaking action at low speed, giving a long reliable operating life with reduced power and maintenance requirements.
Optional orifice plates, where required, provide close control of the final discharged particle size (available with 4, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24, 48 ports). In addition to applications in the meat industry our Pre-Breakers are also successfully used for size reduction of fish, fish wastes and animal products with uprated drive.
General Comments
Niven machines are built to withstand the rugged conditions found when processing animal waste material in the meat industry.
Regular inspections should take place including checking for loose nuts, oil leaks, bearing noise, the end float on the shaft, and the shear pin coupling condition.
Regular inspections should also include checking gearbox oil levels and ensuring the box is not running excessively hot or noisily. Occasionally check coupling alignments and always keep a general watch on anvil and hammer sharpness.
Also please note it is highly recommended where possible that a good metal detection system is fitted on the Pre-Breaker in feed to ensure no tramp metal enters the Pre-Breaker machine.
Regular overhauls will generally require a full service of hammers/anvils/bearings and the main shaft, together with the gearbox coupling and motors. Napier Engineering (parent company of Niven) can aid with this process by supplying new or reconditioned parts to their original tolerances and we invite your enquiries.
The drive arrangement for the PB3-8 Marine is a 7.5 kW T.E.F.C. electric motor coupled to a Sew Gearbox. Electric or Hydraulic options are available.
